Nekropole von Montessu,
Der Name leitet sich vom Berg Monte Essu ab. Eine wunderbare großzügige, gepflegte Anlage „Parco Archeologico di Montessu“ die in einem hochgelegenen Talkessel mit Aussicht auf die Stadt Santadi (Provinz Carbonia-Iglesias) im Süosten Sardiniens liegt. Sie gilt als die größte Nekropole auf Sardinien.
Hier gibt es etwa 40 Domus de Janas / Feenhäuser aus verschiedenen Epochen zu besichtigen. Die Anlage ist ca. 6 qkm groß und Sie sollten für eine komplette Besichtigung mit ca. 1,5h – 2h rechnen. Morgens oder nachmittags ist die beste Zeit für eine Besichtigung (denken Sie an etwas zu trinken) .
Die Ozieri-Kultur (3300-2700 v. Chr.) wurde in den umgebenden Ebenen entdeckt. Es folgten Abealzu-Filigosa-, die Monte Claro und die Bonnanaro-Kulturen, die die Totenstadt weiter ausbauten.
Die Gräber sind zum teile sehr gut erhalten und reichhaltig verziert. Die Frontseiten sind teilweise aufwendig aus dem Fels gehauen. Zwei der Gräber liegen einander in Ost-/Westrichtung gegenüber und sind mit den Vorräumen fast 40qm groß. Schemenhaft sind hier sogar noch Malereien an den Wänden zu erkennen.
Es gibt zwei Gräbertypen, rechteckige und runde. Die Rundgräber gehören zu den älteren. Es ist schon erstaunlich was die Ureinwohner mit einfachsten Werkzeugen
geleistet haben. Absolut sehenswert. Der Besuch kostet Eintritt und ist ganzjährig von 9.00-19:00 geöffnet. Parkplätze sind vorhanden.
Neben der Anlage gibt es im Museum von Santadi weiter Fundstücke zu bewunderen.
Im nahegelegenen Dörfchen Terrazzu steht der größte (5m) Menhir Sardiniens Luxia Arrabiosa.
Im Anschluß kann man noch die Cantina Santadi, die „um die Ecke“ liegt besuchen.

There are about 40 Domus de Janas to visit from different eras. The plant is about 6 square kilometers and you should look for a complete tour with about 1.5 h - 2h expect . Morning or afternoon is the best time to visit (think of something to drink ) .
The Ozieri culture (3300-2700 BC) was discovered in the surrounding plains. This was followed Abealzu - Filigosa , the Monte Claro and the Bonnyrigg cultures , which enlarged the city of the dead on. The tombs are very well preserved and richly decorated parts. The front pages are partially consuming hewn out of the rock . Two of the tombs face each other in Ost-/Westrichtung and are almost 40 square meters in size with the vestibules . Scheme of this are even paintings can be seen on the walls. There are two types of tombs , rectangular and round . The circular tombs belong to the older ones. It's amazing what the natives with the simplest of tools have done. Absolutely worth seeing . The visit, entry costs is open all year from 9:00 to 19:00 . Parking is available.

In the nearby village of Terrazzu is the largest (5m) Menhir Sardinia Luxia Arrabiosa.
